What a few days for the Club

LVS T20 Cup Champions 2022

The 1sts brought home their first silverware of the year by winning the T20 cup on Saturday

In the morning they beat Waringstown by 19 runs to secure a final berth

Runs for Van Der Merwe & Jones, backed up by 5-27 from Matchett to derail the Waringstown reply

In the final vs CSNI runs were flying to all parts

Ross with 31, Doc with 40 and when rained arrived shortening the game the score was 120-2 at the 13 over mark

We eventual finished on 175-5 after 17 overs when more rain again shortened the match

John with 39 and Jason with 38

CSNI required 101 for victory from the 8 overs they had to bat, but came up short by 16 runs

Keith and Jacob bowling 4 excellent overs for just 25 runs and taking a wicket each

NCU T20 Plate Champions 2022

The 2nds kicked off proceedings on Thursday night as they took on Lisburn at Belmont in the final of the T20 plate

After losing the toss and being asked to bat they were in a bit of trouble losing a couple of early wickets but the middle order engine room steadied the ship

Youngsters Carson McCullough and Adam Kennedy top scoring with 36 each at more than a run a ball, and Jacob contributing 34 to proceedings

A total of 156 to defend

In reply the seamers ran riot in the 6 over powerplay ripping out 5 wickets in the first 5 overs

David Robinson with 3 and Paddy Dorrian 2

The spinners kept things so tight that any Lisburn hope was quashed, David Robinson coming back to claim 2 more scalps, finishing with 5-23 in a Player of the Match display

CIYMS winners by 47 runs

Bus Trip Sundays

Sunday saw the 1sts travel to D4 Dublin to face up to holders Pembroke in the Irish Senior Cup

The 40 strong bus left bright and early from Belmont at 830, with around 15 others making the trip down by car

On arrival in Dublin the weather was stunning. Clear blue skies and toasty hot

Jonesy won the toss and put Pembroke in to bat which proved a good decision as the first wicket fell in the second over

90-2 at 25 overs became 252-5 at 50 overs, with a fine knock of 68 from Gavin Hoey the standout innings

After their slow start and with the pitch and outfield baking it always felt Pembroke might be short of a few runs and so it proved

Ross raced out of the gate with 47 off 18 balls, and the scoring rate was high throughout as batters were aggressive in their approach

Regular wickets kept Pembroke afloat in the game until a century stand between Matchett and Van Der Merwe took CI to the brink of victory

John making a magnificent century himself, 102 and Jason remaining unbeaten on 47*

Victors by 5 wickets and into the semi finals

If Carlsberg did Weekends

They’d probably look something like John Matchett’s

Player of the match in both the semi and final of T20 Finals day

5-27 in the semi final, 39 runs and a wicket in the final

He went again on Sunday with a dominant Irish Cup hundred away at the holders Pembroke

Congrats John!

On the ones and twos

It would be very handy for us as a club to have a few more people able and willing to score at games, either on a laptop via NV Play or in the traditional scorebook method

If you would be keen to learn and get involved on match days please respond to this email and we will set you up with Arlene for a crash course

It would be a huge help to the club
