The Lows and Highs

Hopes of a premier league title came to an end at the weekend with defeat to CSNI

As one of our Golden Oldies remarked, everyone is entitled to an off day and this was certainly that

Bundled out for 124 and chased down in less than 20 overs for the loss of just 3 opposition wickets

Elsewhere Lisburn secured the victory they needed to be crowned Champions, triumphing at the Green over North Down

We send them our congratulations, 8th out of 8 last year and Champions this

A remarkable achievement!

Sunday saw the return of Newbuildings to Belmont for the second time this season

This time it was an All Ireland T20 semi final, with the winners advancing to the final and a trip to The Mardyke in Cork

After being asked to bat first by Newbuildings skipper Jared Wilson, Ross and Doc got off to a fast start hovering around 10 an over for the first 5

CI Old Boy Jonny Thompson then struck for side, removing Ross to a fine edge behind

John and Doc then put on what proved to be the match winning partnership adding 108 in just 10 overs

When both were dismissed in quick succession, for 61 (38 balls) and 66 (48 balls) respectively, it looked as though the 200 that had looked likely all innings might not materialise

VDM and Keith soon put pay to that notion, the last 3 overs going for 50 to see a total of 213 posted

The Newbuildings reply truthfully never looked likely

4 chances were dropped early but the run rate never got above 6 an over at any point, while the required run rate spiralled into orbit

Spinners did most of the damage in the wickets column, John picking up 3-8 and Carson 2-16 but of the 7 bowlers used not one went for more than 17 runs

Complete strangulation

Winners by 111 runs, Lord Nelson

In the process we became Ulster Cup Champions, which rather surprised all and sundry as we were neither expecting it nor was there anyone to present

It will fit just nicely in our trophy cabinet regardless

On to Cork next week when the boys will face off with Cork Harlequins for All Ireland T20 Honours

Go well!

2 All Ireland Finals in the same Season. Incredible!

The Big Orange Bucket

Thank you to everyone who donated to our ballot on Sunday, and congratulations to Neil McConkey who won and took home 2 bottles of Vino

We hope everyone enjoyed the BBQ and tuck shop at the game

All of these efforts are to raise vital funds for the club, and create a great atmosphere at the matches
